Facebook Insights Shared Videos Data

As of August 2017, Facebook began limiting available data concerning re-shared videos, i.e. video posts that a page shares from another page. This means that certain detailed information such as average watch time, 30 sec views etc. will always return '0' for re-shared videos.

To make it easier for users to distinguish between whether a field has no data due to it not being available as a re-shared video vs. its value truly being 0, quintly will show 'n/a' in our metrics and data sources when the data is not available for re-shared videos and '0' if the data is available and the true value is 0.

Read Facebook’s full update announcement here.

Will I still see all video data for shared videos from before August 2017?

Unfortunately, re-shared videos which you used to see this detailed views data for will now instead show 'n/a'. This is because Facebook Insights is live data, meaning every time you use an Insights metric, we pull the most updated data for the page, unlike our public data sources in which we import once per day and store the values in our database.

Affected default metrics & data sources

Default metrics
This change affects the Facebook Insights Video Funnel as re-shared videos will have no values for 10s and 30s views. As the Facebook Insights Own Videos Table does not include re-shared videos, there will be no changes there.

Data sources
This change affects the below fields in the facebookInsightsOwnPosts data source and means that re-shared videos will no longer be included in the facebookInsightsVideosRetention data source. As the facebookInsightsOwnVideos data source does not include re-shared videos, there will be no changes there.

This means any custom metric using the facebookInsightsOwnPosts or facebookInsightsVideosRetention data sources are affected if the page has re-shared videos.
